      Hi Sakthi,
Win 95 supports long filenames up to 255 characters, could it be that you are using old applications that only support 8.3 filenames?

It is strange; it supports windows 95. But if your program is an old one, it supports only 8.3 filenames;then it limits win95.
      Can you tell more details?
      1) In the dos mode of win95, you cannot use beyond 8.3 filename.
      2) What is the program which limits win95?
      3) Try to make a new directory with long filename in windows explorer. Eg. c:\longnamePhilip. If it cannot be done, your windows has a problem.
open windows explorer –>alt-F (file)–>New–>Folder–>add the name “longnamePhilip”I hope it can help you; if it does not please e-mail and tell me more details.

I agree with both answers so far – If you isntalled Widnows95/98 and still see only 8.3 you must be talking of either dos mode or the program you are in – if you are running a windows 3.1 program on 95/98 then it will still only see 8.3

I thought that is caused by your FAT. If you choose to retain FAT16, to enable backward compatibility with DOS 6.2, only 8.3 filenames will be available. Convert that to FAT32, then you will have long filenames which is not compatible with DOS 6.2.
Are you upgrading from Win 3.1 to Win 95 ??
