    How to fix app speeds?

    by gordojr27 ·

Is there a way that I can reduce the amount of space and energy an app requires on my phone? I have deleted and reinstalled apps, cleared caches, and tried updating them and my phone. I would really appreciate any help.

Your subject is about speed, your post about space and energy. Those are different things.

Alas, space required by an app (except cache) and energy used to do an operation can’t be influenced. But you can make the screen somewhat darker, so it uses less energy.

I’m afraid a new phone would be the best solution.

In addition to what kees_b mentioned, as the phone gets older, more resources (primarily storage) will run out or perform not as optimally as they used to. Virtually all modern cell phones cannot have the system RAM/storage updated and SD storage cards are no longer supported by most manufacturers. Call it planned obsolesce. The manufacturers prefer that you buy a newer handset every couple of years or even a shorter time frame. Cell phones are not upgradable like a desktop computer and most phones are no longer user-serviceable.

To reduce the space and energy an app requires on your phone, there are a few strategies beyond deleting and reinstalling apps or clearing caches. These include limiting background processes, disabling unnecessary app features, or using lite versions of apps.

There’s a couple different ways you can fix this problem one being if you delete unnecessary data because some apps have files or offline content that may be taking up space. Another way may be to check the settings for the app because some apps have settings that can decrease data usage.

To fix app speeds, here are some steps you can take:

Clear Cache: Apps store temporary files that can slow down performance over time. Clearing the cache can help.

On Android: Go to Settings > Apps > Storage > Clear Cache.
On iOS: You may need to uninstall and reinstall the app to clear the cache, as iOS doesn’t provide a direct way to clear cache for individual apps.
Update the App: Make sure the app is updated to the latest version, as developers often release performance improvements and bug fixes.

Reduce Background Processes: Close unnecessary apps running in the background that may consume resources and slow down performance.

Check for Storage Issues: Ensure your device has sufficient storage. Low storage can significantly impact app speeds.

Free up space by deleting unnecessary files or apps.
Disable Unnecessary Features: Some apps allow you to disable features you may not need (like animations or background sync), which can improve speed.

Check Network Connection: Slow internet speeds can affect app performance, especially for apps that require online connectivity. Test your connection and switch to a stronger Wi-Fi if needed.

Restart the Device: Sometimes, a simple restart can clear up minor glitches and improve the overall speed of your apps.

Reinstall the App: If all else fails, uninstalling and reinstalling the app may resolve any issues causing the slow speed.

Following these steps should help speed up most apps.

You’ve already taken some great steps to optimize your phone’s performance. Here are some additional tips to reduce space and energy consumption:

      1. Disable background apps: Limit apps that run in the background, as they consume resources. Go to Settings > Apps > Background apps.
      2. Restrict app permissions: Review and revoke unnecessary permissions, reducing data access and energy usage.
      3. Use Lite or Go versions: Consider using lightweight versions of apps, like Facebook Lite or Google Go.
      4. Clear data: In addition to clearing caches, clear app data to remove stored files and reduce space usage.
      5. Uninstall unused features: Remove unused features or plugins within apps to reduce their footprint.
      6. Use a task killer: Apps like Greenify or Task Killer can hibernate apps, reducing energy consumption.
      7. Adjust app settings: Lower graphics quality, turn off animations, or disable location services within apps.
      8. Update to a newer Android version: Newer versions often include performance and energy efficiency improvements.
      9. Perform a factory reset: If all else fails, consider resetting your phone to its factory settings.
      10. Monitor app performance: Use built-in tools like Android’s Battery or Storage settings to identify resource-intensive apps.

Remember, some apps may still consume resources even after trying these steps .
