How to get 5 1/4 Floppy Info?

By galahad04 ·
Does anyone know how, in a day and age where 5 1/4 floppy drives are obsolete, to get the contents of a single 5 1/4 floppy disk on a 3.5 floppy disk? (I have a 5 1/4 floppy disk but no disk drive for it so that I can get to the data.)

Have you tried a local library or even a college? That might be your best shot without purchasing the equipment.

Thank you for the suggestion...however the computers at all local libraries I have checked are either running relatively new equipment or are really old ssytems that do not include floppy drives. Also the computers at my local college all run on either Pentium II or III chips.

The only option that I would suggest is to try and find a older model 486 from a computer shop or school to see if they have one around. Trying to find 5.25 floppy is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

Unfortunately, the oldest models I could find from local refurbished computer sellers were Pentium 90 machines...and these did not include the 5.25 floppy drive either. And as I mentioned above, my local college only carries recent equipment. But thanks for your input...

If your are still looking for a solution, check you newspaper and other local sources for a PC User Group. You will most likely find someone there that still has a working one with a 1.4 that will copy for you.

Thanks for the tip. However, at this time, I do not really have the time resources needed to launch the kind of ivestigative aproach you propose (since I am working full-time and taking classes).
