I have a friend who Internet Explorer. Someone has set a content advisor password on her computer in the college dorm. What can I do to help her get rid of this?

Re-installing won't work as the actual password is encrypted and stored in the Win registry under its own key and seperate from any application data.

To remove the entry start up "regedit". Then go to the Registry drop down menu and select "export". Export the entire registry so you create a backup copy of the registry in case something happens while your editing - you can highlight this exported file with your right mouse button and select "merge" to reinstate it. Once you've
backed it upfind the key;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Ratings

in the right hand pane highlight the value and delete it. This will have removed the content advisor password. Its worthwhile enabling the content advisor again with a new password and then disabling it. Then if someone tries to re-enable it they will have to enter the new password.
