how to get rid of trojan virus using system restore

By vcampbell734 ·
I read that using system restore with disk defragment tool would eliminate Trojan virus, but after reading the trouble some are having not sure which restore point to use etc. worried I my knock out my system instead of cleaning it. Advise please, Oh, I downloaded AVG 7.5 and its working but it backed up the virus and I had to manually delete, it returned to show up only in virus history. Not sure where I'm at with this.

more recent viruses, trojans, and worms embed portions of themselves in System Restore. This is why most instructions for getting rid of these things instruct to disable System Restore.

Disable your System Restore, boot into Safe Mode, and run your anti-virus tool/s in Safe Mode. In all but the worst circumstances this should help significantly to remove your pest from your System Restore files.

In addition to deleting the System Restore before scanning in Safe Mode, I'd also advise turning OFF the Hibernation File.

After all, there may exist a residual infection from the last time the system Hibernated.

I'd also suggest that after running AVG and catching the little beggars, RUN AVG AGAIN to make sure it returns a zero find.

Then reboot as normal, turning on System Restore and Hibernation (both of which will now be virginal).

It [obvioulsy!] wouldn't have to ocurred to me about Hibernate. Likely because I don't use it.

that this -- "using system restore with disk defragment tool would eliminate Trojan virus" -- is a big load of BS. I don't know where you read that, but I would start looking for new sources of information.

Confusion.

The constituent properties vary according to what is available locally on any given day, but generally it usually tastes the same (with minor variations), although not always.

That sort of thing. Definitely, I think, most of the time.
