How to import an oracle dump file..

By dthirlway ·
Hi, I dont realy know oracle or unix much.
I need to referesh our test oracle dabase with our production. We have a dump file created by an export nightly. The way our IT department did it does not work anymore, the company we use to sort out our oracle backup has changed stuff, now the file is to big to extract the file from its tar file. We got the out soucsed company to do the import for use, they did it different they used a command ora_import. However wont tell us how they did the import. From what I can tell it is part of a replication agent, and used the imp utillity. Now there is a script that they must have used.

We have the command that they used but dont know how they configed it to do the job, there must be a script file some where that it is using, I need to know how to configure it to find the dmp file and what database to restore it to (we run quite a few prod and test db for diff programs). I gather that what they are doing is piping the dump file using grep and importing it real time but dont know how or where the config is to change the settings for the db instance etc.

Help would be much appreciated.
