how to install a 3rd ide device

By luc_coallier ·
Hi, I would like to know how do you install and configure a 3rd IDE drive. I currently have a 52x cd drive and 1 40 Gb HD installed. On my motherboard there are 2 ide connector (primary and secondary). I want to add a CD-RW and not replace my current 52xCD which works fine.

Check the configuration of your current drives
The hard drive will be setup on the primary controller, then your cd-rom could be set as slave to the hard drive on the primary controller

If this is true then you can configure the CD-RW as Master by setting jumpers on the back of drive, then plug the Secondary controller to the CD-RW
You donot have to replace the CD-ROM it will be fine to leave in the system as a slave to the hard drive or the CD-RW

Open the CMOS panel and check configuration panel to make sure that drive is being recognized

Also reference the manual that comes with the CD-RW which will provide you with installation instructions
