How to kill a bad SHARE?

By ldominguez ·
As the new admin here I inherited an NT Share that looks just like the "Pipe More" symbol. This is strictly a windos NT network. It cannot be accessed because it says that the path to this directory cannot be found. I cannot get rid of or delete theshare, and I can't rename it either.
How can I get rid of this cursed beast?
It just annoys me to look at it on my server.

How to kill a bad SHARE?

by avachon In reply to How to kill a bad SHARE?

Hi, so you know this share has no meaning for your server or network? Okay. You can log on to the server as the local administrator and take ownership of the share. Once you have taken ownership, you can get rid of it.

As Administrator:

Stop the Server Service.

Run REGEDIT and drill down to the following key:

\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\Shares

If you see an entry in this key for the share in question highlight itand delete.

Restart the Server Service. This should eliminate your problem.

(It is advisable to save the registry prior to making a direct change.)
