Assuming you're on WinXP,

For starters, right click the folder in question and bring up the properties dialog. Go to the security tab. The checkbox at the bottom will tell you whether or not subfolders will inherit permissions from the parent folder.

What type of file system do u use?
If your file system is NTFS: security is better than FAT32 and you can save your file safely. You can see your permisson assignment there for that folder. If you want more, select Advaned button and you can see permisson, Audit, Owner, Effective permisson. Select Effective permisson and select account which you want to check. YOu will see all of permisson of this account on folder you are active.

I'm assuming that you want to see all of the rights for folders in a tree rather than simply finding out rights for the active folder.

Two ways. One is to write recursive vbscript to read each folder Access Control List. An easier way is to use a program such as SETACL - you'll get it at http://setacl.sourceforge.net/ - and in the docs they have an example of the command line to dump out all of the ACLs for a share.

Either way, you'll get a lot of data.
