how to make this 9 pin male to female cable work

Hi everyone,

I’ve this Skylane SL-2048 modem & needed to change the frequency..I’ve 2 options to change the frequency, 1st one is I’ve to have a keypad which come’s with the modem.. but I don’t have this with me rightnow …2nd one is using a serial cable 9 pin male to female.. But the cable I’ve with me is for UPS It’s a serial cable 9 pin male to femlae It’s not working .. When I connect this cable & try to connect through hyperterminal… it doesn’t work… Someone told me that it will not working because the coding is differant …now My question is there a way to make this cable work ??? or any other way to change frequncy on this modem.
