How to make USB Flah memory sticks bootable

By kcav ·
I have inserted 128MB Flash Memory card in USB 2.0 port. How can format it, and I can configure setup to boot from it. How can I make it a bootable device?

The way I see it, the USB would be detected as a hard drive (if your MB supports it)...since it's detected as a hard drive it would then have to be bootable...i.e. contain command.com or whatever files are needed to boot. Don't quote me on this, but I think most USB drives are the same...with the exception of some that double as MP3 players...so none are created and sold specifically as 'bootable' devices as tmx468 suggests. So just go get one, any one, load it up with everything you need to boot a pc with, and that should do it.

USB devices are plu & play within the operating system only. Unless you have a motherboard that has an option to boot to a USB device you are out of luck. I have never seen one that did.

There may be DOS drivers out there for USB drives but then you would be booting to a flopy rather than the USB drive.
