    How to network wireless XP to Win2kpro..

    I am new to networking, in fact I currently have 0 knowledge on the subject at hand.

    I just bought a brand new laptop, and added a wireless adapter and router to our main computers cable modem. That main computer runs Win2kPro and I love it, and will not move it to XP.

    This new laptop has XP Home.
    Can I network the two together through the D-Link router?

    I have them both connecting to the internet through the same router, but cannot seem to figure out how to access files on my main computer from this laptop.

    I Greatly appreciate any words of wisdom on the subject matter that you have.

    Thank you much, in advance for any tips/advice you have to offer.

      If both laptop and PC are able to get to the internet it would stand to reason that both machines are setup properly on the network.

      This being the case, you will need to setup sharing on one or both of the machines. (Depending on whether you want to share both ways) Hope this helps. If you need additional help setting up sharing on the Win2K box, email me and I will be happy to help.

      Richard,

      Both the computers must be on the same workgroup ie, WORGROUP or MSHOME. You must also make sure that no firewall is preventing a connection to the other computer. If you have any Firewalls running you may want to disable the temp. to see if they are causing you the problem. Then configure them accoridingly.

      So, it is possible to network 2 different Windows O/S’s? Win2kPro and XP Home?

      Point value changed by question poster.
      I cannot get anything to work, always says “Permission Denied” on both computers, when I try to access them. I do see them on the “my network places”, but like I said when I try to click on them, I get the message permission denied, make sure blah blah….

      Or I might get the message that it is not accessible.

      Anyways, please help.
