how to permanently remove network drive?

By utken ·
I recently upgrade my Win98 to Win 2000 Pro. Before, I have access to C (local), J (my network user drive) and K (public drive). After the upgrade, I now have an additional drive called H in My Computer! It's actually a duplicate of my J drive, onlywith different drive letter. I never created such drive and don't know where it came from and have to disconnect this network drive manually each time I start computer. Any idea of how I can permanently remove this drive?
Thank you.

Sounds like you should check your user profile on the server. WIN98 didn't know what to do with the "Home Folder" under the profile. It's probably set to connect H: to your home path. Could also be a policy issue but doesn't sound like it.

The Home Directory is indeed set as H on the server (NT4). The J was used to map to the home directory under Win98. It seems like win2000 now recognizes H and keep the J too.

You may go to system information-tools->network connections, right click on the extra drive and deleted.

#3 opens up Network and Dial-up connections, so that won't work. You can just open My Computer, right-click on the drive, and click Disconnect.

If the drive is mapped through a script, then remove the command from the script and perform the abovefunction.

write an new batch file to log yourself on. Use the "net use" command, something like this.
net use K: \\servername\sharename /persistent:NO
The persistent:NO deletes the drive when you log off.
