How to put an OS on a laptop with a PCMC

By Shanghai Sam ·
My friend formatted his Compaq laptop so we could put either Win 98 or NT. Well of course the driver for the PCMCIA cd-rom was wiped and we can't install the OS. We tried using the installion disk that comes with the TEAC external cd-rom but it won't install and comes up with an error message that says something winsetup. The next we tried was installing Win NT off disks but when it made it to the 3rd disk it cancels setup because it can't find a cd-rom. We're pretty new at this and we need some help.

WEll guys you must obtain another diskette for that cd-rom what actually you've got is a windows installtion diskette. That dikette only works after you've installed windows and to install that cd-rom. You must obtain a dikette that detect from the dos mode. And tell teh truth most vendors have that. Once I've also ran into that prob with a TOshibe Portege 3440 notebook and later i found that diskette that capable of booting from dos and decting that cd-rom.

the problem is with card services.
you need to get dos drives to install
card services before installing the cdrom
drivers. had a problem with a sony that
i could not find dos card services drivers.
the only way out was to purchase a lpt
port cdrom. some newer laptops come with
bios that supports cdrom booting.
