how to put gateway microsoft office basic edition to a non gateway comp

I’m trying to put microsoft office basic edition 2003 onto my dell laptop. I bought it with my gateway desktop and every time i try to install it on my dell it says this is not a gateway computer. Is there any way to get around this problem and put it onto my dell?
