To Change the Location:

Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders. In the right pane, right click Favorites/Modify/Change path. To verify: On the Favorites menu, click Organize Favorites.

If you have TweakUI installed for Windows XP, go to My Computer/Special Folders/Folder/Favorites/Change Location.

you can redirect your whole my documents folder by right clicking on my documents, selct properties and change the target.
Or you can go into the registry and go to
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\Shell Folders and only change the entry for favorites to the location of your choice.

Remember you'll have to do it again if you reformat your system. But at least the files will stay put

I use the free Folder Mover from Horizondatasys linked below:
You can safely move all of part of your My Documents folder with a couple of quick clicks.

Fisrt always back up your important files. I can not say this enough, it will save a lot of cussing. Now right click my favotites and copy then place it in what ever drive, cd or USB you want. IT only takes a second and you can do it as many times as you want.
Why do you keep fomating your drive? You can get Ghost for almost no money off of Ebay and make an image. Then when you hose your O/S just boot to the cd or DVD and in no time your up and running.

I've actually modified my login scripts so that favorites will roam with the user. I found out how to do this by following the tip at this web site:

http://www.amset.info/loginscripts/ie-favorites.asp

If you then redirect your favorites to a network share (typically your home directory), you can back them up.

I've personally found the tip on this web site works really well.
