How to recover my OS

By aviatorhawk ·
hi
My brother gave me his laptop computer and asked me to format c: and install windows xp again. I use the 3 Recovery cds that the laptop brought to reinstall the os .After i inserted the cd #2 it said that it couldnt read from the cd , so i stop the recovery process by restarting the computer .BUT it seems that the cd #1 deleted the OS and now i cant use any cd to recover it because the message "OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND" appeares on the screen . How can i install the OS on that hard disk again if i dont have another laptop so i can make an image ???

no sweat. just check your settings in BIOS, make sure it is set to boot from CD rom drive first. then boot with first recovery cd inserted and bob should be your uncle..

Start by contacting the laptop manufacture and seeing if you can get a new set of recovery CDs.

The manufactures recovery CDs don't actually install Windows.
What they do, is restore an image of the hard drive as it was setup when the laptop was shipped.

When disk 2 failed, so did the image restore.

If you can't get a replacement CD set from the manufacture, you next option would be to install an OEM copy of XP using the license key for the laptop.

Alternately, you could just install XP from an OEM or retail CD, and use the new product key.
