How to remote

By kkelly_79 ·
hi! not sure how to explain this so i'll just put it at the punch line: (home network)

I.(security restriction, RDP)
ISSUES: "remote connection may not be enabled or the pc is busy accepting new connection, network problems are preventing connection."

II. HOW DO YOU CONFIGURE OR remote 3 pc's that's network (A. issues starts at I.)

III. (did/done) all 3 pc(s) firewall are disabled, and is enabled/set to accept remote destop connection.
(B. issues remains the same)

IV (NETWORK SETUP)
PC# 1: ON NETWORK SET UP WIZARD IS SET UP TO "CONNECT TO INTERNET DIRECTLY THRU RESIDENTIAL GATEWAY." (want this to be main pc)

PC# 2&3: "CONNECTS DIRECTLY To the internet. DON'T HAVE A NETWORK CONNECTION YET."

All 3 pc(s) are now network (same workgroup) together, file and printer sharing. (good) (but no remote connection still)

V. why can't i remote any of the pc on my network, what is missing/done wrong? what is my main issues? Does my router setting (linksys that is configured by browser not by software installation) has to do with this?

last: i've tried DameWare, PCAnywhere and still nothing, ALTHOUGH I WAS ABLE TO REMOTE PC# 2 BY MSN MESSENGER (by invitation) although this is only for one-one assistant which i could really used. can any one give a walkthrough? Thanks in advance

more info: all 3 pcs are running xp home, i research microsoft on "how to remote" come to find out that you can remote xp professional to w2k3, and no articles about remoting xp home!

My previous network, one (pc# 2) was running xp prof (before i decided to drop this station down to xp home) where i was able to remote this station using xp home edition.

Q: HOW COULD I BE ABLE TO REMOTE XP PROF USING HOME EDITION AND NOT BE ABLE TO REMOTE HOME EDITION IT SELF?

first question is do you have a router between the internet and your network. If so you must open up the ports required for remote access.

Hi!CHeck router configuration. Disable ICS. Try using a hub instead of a router. Remote desktop connection is not supported on Windows XP Home. Try pinging each of your pc by going to: Start - Run. On the Run box, type cmd. On the CMD-Line interface type ping "ip address of pc"
example: ping 192.168.1.2
This is done to check if you have connectivity between your PCs.
If you have IP Addresses in the 169.254.0.0 range, give your PCs static IP Addresses instead.
example: PC#1= 192.168.1.2
PC#2= 192.168.1.3
PC#3= 192.168.1.4
Then try the ping command again.
