How to remove erroneous XP installation files

I can't seem to find the post where it tells you how to remove an erroneous windows XP installation .... when I boot the computer I see two (2) windows XP (just like in a dual OS where you can select from the two) The first one is valid and the bottom one is not...

How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=

should be the default if XP is on the first Primary partition.
