How to remove Unknow undectable viruses

By tripplec ·
How can a system be scanned using a current signature database. Problem encounter was installed McAfee was disbled by the virus, attempts to install a new NAV 2003 or 2004 installation and update were not possible. The unknown virus diabled the LiveUpdate on all versions and attempts. No component would launch, or allow registration to proceed. IE 6 online scanning was disabled. Scan prior to install of NAV 2004 uses very old files and detects nothing and now way known to create an updated CD with the latest signatur files on it.
Any idea's for the furture cases?

Try installing a free A/V program, like AVG found at http://www.grisoft.com . I have found that you can install this when Norton & McAfee will not. And it does a pretty decent job at detecting viruses, even finding them in the _restore directory under XP.

HTH.

when this happens to me i download and run stinger.exe (free from www.mcafee.com). i removes handful of worst viruii and runs from floppy. then see if you can install your antivirus
the way you get norton defs w/o installing is to download intelligent updater and extract virus files from it. instructions are in intelligent updater.txt available at that download page at nortons

in the old days, with Norton, you could create an AV rescue diskette set and boot from the floppies, load in the current AV and scan. Todays Norton Systemworks with AV doesn't have that.

Norton does have online scanning or Viruses. here's a link to their site. Might try isolating the computer, hooking it up to the internet and scan it. http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=NSW2003&langid=ie&venid=sym

note: the web page that comes up says security check. just click the radio button link and the next page will have the online AV scan feature

Try running a spyware program like spybot or adaware because it is possible that spyware is causing this problem.
