How to Remove Windows Antivirus Pro

By mr_t_wright ·
Ok, can anyone help, I have tried everything I can think of. It wont allow me to boot in safe mode, the registry is disable, the internet is disabled, the command prompt is disabled, cant access flash drive to install mailware..... I'm stuck all the ways that I know to remove viruses it has blocked.. I'm running xp home on a laptop, cant boot in safe mode, cant run regedit, cmd, or use usb drive.... None of these are in process tree: 1) Windows Antivirus Pro.exe
2) svchast.exe
3) ANTI_files.exe
4) dbsinit.exe
5) desot.exe

It's probably been left too long ...

This family of Hostageware viruses are a lot easier (but still not that easy) to eradicate if caught when their symptoms are only just starting to show. At that point, with a bit of judicious timing of the mouse-click or the keyboard commands, access the root of the system is a relatively straightforward affair.

But by the time all of the symptoms you have described are in place, there is very little real chance of getting anything done IN SITU.

By this point the only option open is to remove the infected drive and attempt an eradication process by slaving the HDD to another (hopefully to remain) uninfected machine.

If that's not an option - it's time to bite the bullet and pull the plug on the whole affair.

Eradicate the entire HDD with something like 'Darik's Boot&Nuke', then perform a fresh install and start over.

Kill all forms of Restore Points ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Ok making progress

Shut it down completely. STOP system restore.

This virus will 'hide' inside the restore points and then creep back out when you restart.

So - stop System Restore, reboot INTO SAFE MODE then run the 'Malwarebytes AntiMalware' from Safe Mode.

Also - at ANY point of removing this form of virus - DO NOT Restart EVER!

Always SHUTDOWN, then BOOT from COLD.

You could try booting with a Linux or A Vista Recovery CD and manually deleting all of the Associated Windows Antivirus Pro Files.

The Windows Vista Recovery CD can be used to Boot your PC.

Boot from the CD and Delete Associated Windows Antivirus Pro Files

Then run the software in the Link.

Once it has finishe you may have to manually remove the Registry entries.

Let us know which way you want to go.
