how to reset my ipod

i have an apple ipod.

there is written as

"designed by Apple in California
Made in china. Serial No: 4H547VBSRS9"

Till few months back it was working fine .. now the problem is, windows deletes it but when i tried to open the drive it say ... somthing like the device cannot be accessible. something I/O error occured.

how to reset this ipod now ...

If I remember correctly...turn the hold button on and off, then hold down the center and menu buttons for about 5 seconds. The apple icon should appear when it is reseting

yes that is good for the second generation Ipod .. but i have first generation which doesnot have any LCD screen.
