Hi all,
I just lost my single DC in single domain due to hard drives failure. The DC was configured with two mirrored SCSI 36GB drives, and a third 36GB in which the AD log files were located. One hard drive failed last Friday morning and today the second one failed!!
I do not have any other DCs on the network. I have told management many times before about the need that I had for another DC on the network for fault tolerance, but because of financial reasons this cannot be done until the end of November.
I should receive the replacement hard drives hopefully next Monday.
1- How do I restore AD?
2- Is it better to use Raid-5 instead of mirroring? Do I have to create disk volumes with the same drive letters, etc as before?
4- I am using Veritas Backup Exec 8.6. I?ve configured and scheduled a full backup every night of the C: and system state data plus the log files on the third drive.
If someone out there has gone through this process before could you guide me in the right direction or point me to the right resources. I have looked into the MS knowledge base but I have not been able to find a step by step guide on how to recover a single DC, all the articles that I’ve come across talk about AD recovery when there are multiple DCs. FSMO rules etc. Since I only have one DC, I believe that this DC hold of the roles. Am I correct?
I know that there are too many questions but I am desperate. I am a AD newbie 🙁
Thanks in advance.
