how to restrict the user for installing the software.

i have the windows xp pro. sp2 and the user has the limited rights than also he was able to install the unwanted software in the pc. so how i can set the policy to ristrict the user give some solution

Is this in a domain environment? You can use a network wide GPO to block the installation of new software.

There are also some 3rd party applications that cost anywhere from $20 to $50 to help with this issue.

It does become tricky to control this because you are effectively blocking access to executables. The computer isn't intelligent enough to tell if notepad.exe is a setup file or not, and you can't just block access to all .exe files because they user couldn't work! It is simple to block .msi files... but more than half of all setup applications are still old school exe installers.
