How to Retrieve a Drive in Hard Disk which is not accessible for use?

By amitprakash.nav ·
While installing window7, wanted to merge part of D drive with C to increase it's volume. I split D drive with certain volume for merging but could not do so hence tried to re-merge split D drive. While doing so it warned that the drive thereafter can not be used, with the view to reformat later I executed. To my surprise that drive is not showing in the configuration of hard disk. I have lost considerable space, how to retrieve it?

Couple of options

Sounds like the drive needs to be initialized. You can boot in to Bios and see if the drive is showing there and initialize it if needed. Or you can pull the drive from the system, bring windows up. Shut it down and re-install the drive. Sometimes this will make the OS re-see the drive. Alternatively you can try a third party partition software to see if this will access the drive. Most of these have a trial version that won't let you actually partition it until you buy it.
