How to retrieve vidoe from security camera hard disk

    Locked

    by pjm123 ·

    Hi,
I recently replaced a hard disk for a security camera cos it was full and have tried plugging in the full one to my PC to view/retrieve the videos but all I see are files like: BLK000002, BLK000003 and so on but no video files. Would really appreciate if anyone knew how to go about in retrieving the videos from the PC. The file system for the hard disk is ext3 (linux) . I can access it from the DVR btu what I would like to do is accessing in from the PC.

I’m not really sure that you can view it on a PC

Mainly because the Security System uses a different format to save Video Files.

Before we can go any further you would need to tell us what file type the Surveillance System saves as, this should be available by looking at the stored videos on the Security System.

You would also need to tell us what OS you are using on your PC.

Generally with things like this you are supposed to save to the PC from the Surveillance System not just change HDD’s.

Thats the problem. I cannot make out what file type it is as the files are dtored without any .extension ever. Also I’ve tried on both Linx (fedora) and Windows but its still the same

Well without the File Extension it’s not possible to suggest what you need to install to view the video.

Also as Windows can not read any partitions but it’s own you are unlikely to be able to do much with the drive on a Windows Platform.

If you go to the Security System does that show the file type?

That is what I was thinking of when I asked.
