How to run Exch. server & Proxy server

by alan blake, doncaster cab, uk . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

We have a small network comprising 2 servers (PDC/BDC) running NT server and 25 PCs running NT w/s. DNS is handled by our ISP. We have a 3com ISDN router (lanmodem) and are unable to receive email but we can send OK. Exchange server and proxy serverare currently installed on the BDC. I have been told that Proxy server may be blocking incoming mail but I don’t know how to stop it since packet filtering is not enabled! There is only one NIC in the server which is mapped to 2 IP addresses – one internal to the network and one external, provided by our ISP – and I think I might need to install another NIC so that packet filtering is enabled and I can configure the proxy to allow incoming mail. Am I on the right track or not? I don’t claim to be any kind of expert and, since I work for a charity, money is tight. I would REALLY appreciate any ideas anyone might have. I’ve tried MS Knowledge base but can’t find anything that applies to my situation. HELP!
