How to SAFELY delete Win. media player.

By Daz'n'Ash ·
I would like to know how I can SAFELY delete Windows Media Player or how to stop it from loading when a music CD is inserted into the CD Rom? I am working on a computer that likes to freeze totally when WMP is launched. It is a mystery because it is the only program that doesd it. It is just the standard WMP which coems with Win Me. This computer is running 128 MB Ram, and plenty of free space on the HDD.

What I have tried already is different CPU, same effect, diferent Ram chips, same effect, so they are not the problem. The current CPU is 233 MhZ. which is the maximum for that mobo. Have also tried using the Media Player with no other programs running, same effect. They do have WinAmp installed and never have a problem with that or any other software installed.

Any ideas out there?

I don't have a WinME box to give you the exact path, but you can try:
-add/remove programs from control panel in both <Install/Uninstall> and <Windows setup> and remove Media player from here.
-or in Windows explorer\View\Folder options\File types- browse for -Audio CD, double clik on it, double clik on Actions\play. Here you can change your default player for AudioCD, browse and point to your Winamp.exe. Confirm on close all dialogs.

If the second point don't work remove/delete this AudioCD entry. Put a audio CD in your CD-ROM, open explorer, try to open an audio track, if you are asking for an app to run/open this file point the winamp.exe.
Other posibility is to deactivate AutoPlay for CD-ROM. Go to Device Manager, in CD-ROM properties you will find autoplay options which can be disabled.

Depending on the version and operating system you have on the system you cannot use Add/Remove Programs to delete Media Player from Windows Me
