How to set up SMTP services in XP

By 2b's ·
Our company is getting a Konica 7022 Multi-Function Copy System, one of which is scan to Email. Since we do not have a mail server in house and our ISP does not allow mail relaying we need to install an SMTP service for it to work. Since I have never used this service before I need some information on how to set it up for a small office of at least 15 users.

Go to "add or remove programs" in the control panel. Click on Add/Remove Windows Components. Open "Internet Information Service (IIS)" (If you do not see it let me know and I will tell you how to make it visable). Click the box that says "SMTP Service". Make sure you have your Windows XP disk in and click OK and Next. That will install it.
To set it up 1.open IIS Console 2. Right click Default SMTP Virtual Server and select properties 3. From the 'General' tab, select your IP address from the dropdown menu (If IP is not listed, it can be found by typing "ipconfig" into Run, or Command Prompt). 4. Next, go to the 'Access' tab, and click 'Authentication' button. Enable anonymous access, and click ok. 5. Still in the 'Access' tab, click the Conection button, and select the 'Only the list below' option. Add your ip address to the list, and click ok (This will ensure that no other machine can connnect to your SMTP w/out permission). 6. Still in the 'Access' tab, click the 'Relay' button, and select the 'Only the list below' option. Add your ip address to the list, and click ok. There are other options that could be customized (other IP's, personal emails) but this is all that is really needed to get your SMTP functioning in IIS to send, and receive emails.
