How to Show Job Performance = It's Working

I'm having a hard time showing to adminstration that my staff are working and productive when all IT functions ARE WORKING. They seem to think we are Maytag repairmen sitting around waiting for something to break and until then we aren't doing anything. What things do I use/track/measure to give them a sense of what we are doing when everything is "running?"
