I have XP, then added Win 7 as dual boot. I formatted the partition containing win7. But when boot, win 7 again comes as dual boot. I want to get away with win 7 from boot information. I need advice. Thanks.

I’m thinking that an edit of the boot.ini file is needed.

This is all mine shows for Windows XP.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
I’m unsure if removing Windows 7 references will be enough. -

Yes, it works.

On restarting the system there will no longer be a choice to boot from either partition, just from the remaining partition listed in the boot.ini file. However, you do not recover the space occupied by the now inaccessible partition.

Use Disk Management to help to recover space.
by ron k. · about 12 years, 1 month ago
In reply to Yes, it works.
Comtol Panel | Administrative Tool (Classic view) | Computer Management | Disk Management. View that it’s the correct drive then open My Computer, Right-click on the drive and choose to reformat it to an NTFS drive.

I removed Open SUSE from a dual boot system.

I used PartitionMagic to lose the GRUB loader. That was my last dual-boot system.
