How to stay on top of what?s happening

By Snuffy09 ·
Everybody in IT knows that if you?re going to be in this career long-term you have to stay on top of the ever changing Hardware, Software, Protocols, and of course security.

I am a hardcore hardware geek. I love building my own systems and systems for others, and tinkering with my own.

What are some good ways to stay on top of the software and security area?

Then read some more. Talk to people in your Network often and just keep an eye on what is happening. However even in one General Area you can not be expected to know it all either for instance the Wholesaler who I buy most of my parts from asked me to have a look at their Server because their staff who deal in this stuff do not have as much knowledge as I do on Multi Processor Server Boards. They may touch one once every 2 years where as I work with them all of the time and know their intricacies far better. It's not that the staff who work there are useless just that they do not have the First Hand experience.

But honestly if you work in one area you are not expected to know it all if you just have a General Knowledge of the other areas that is enough unless you are passing yourself off as an Expert which simply do not exist.
