My school doesent teach cisco related computer courses. I would like to learn CCNA on my own. is CCNA a good starter. are there any prerequsites to CCNA. The book CCNA Certification Library (CCNA Self-Study, exam #640-801), Sixth Edition looks good since it comes with simulation software so i dont have to buy expensive software. Should i read something else before diggin into this monster?
i know TCP/IP and how to set up a Linux network NFS/NIS. im really into linux although it would be nice to learn CCNA from a windows pointer of view as well, since my college teaches Windows Server 2003.

I would study for Network+ and maybe take the exam before getting into CCNA. Its not a prerequisite but the topics covered in Network+ are mostly assumed to be 'givens' at CCNA level.
Buy the Cisco Press CCNA book. The CCNA is based on this book. It teaches you a bit more than you need to know; which is good. No pre-requesites to get the CCNA except an interest in the obvious and a determination to study hard. You can also test yourself with Boson tests. Check out http://www.boson.com/ Good luck with your study.
You already have what it takes to start your own CCNA study. One of the best manuals is by Wendell Odom (you have 2 choices, CCENT or Just take CCNA-640-802 tests). Don't forget to get the Testking for CCNA question & Answers. Highly recommended.
For ccna study material both online and offline study materials are very important, books like from Todd Lammle or Wendel Odom, and also cb nugget video series is tremendous,in online resources alot of websites and blogs provide huge study material for example i got 980 studying from both https://learningnetwork.cisco.com and http://ccnaexam4u.blogspot.com
I would recommend getting subscriptions for the books and online instructional videos for CCENT and CCNA preparation because they are always up to date and you'll see they are a good bargain. For books, checkout the safari books online website - for $10/month you can get access to multiple CCNA books. For video tutorials, take a look at bosscbt.tv - they give you hundreds of videos covering all CCNA &CCENT topics for a low cost.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
