How to turn off router’s firewall

    Locked

    by joshuapoon ·

My office installed a Netgear router model MR314. I wonder if anyone would has a clue on how to modify the router setting to allow NetMeeting and MSN Voice/Video Conversation? It seems the current firewall setting blocks all the Voice/Video communication as well as the IRC session. Thanks for your comments in advance.

There should be built in administrator software or some sort of GUI to modify the settings. Usually by going into Internet explorer and typing the ip address of the router. Ex. 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1. This should bring up a screen where you will have to enter a username and password. Within the router settings, sometimes advanced settings, you will need to specify opening certain ports. If you set up an FTP server in your office, you would have to open up port 21 (or whichever you configure the server to use). I would figure out which ports, IRC, Netmeeting etc. uses and then open them to see if the problem is resolved.

Thank you very much for the responds. I have no problem to access to the administrator software to modify the port setting. In fact my problem is I do not know which port should be opened for NetMeeting and MSN. There are other newer models can turnit on easily. I am just not sure whether if MR314 can handle this or not. By the way, does the question that I asked related to UPNP?
