How to update database on sending Email

By mydancher ·
Hi

We have a requirement where an Oracle database table has to be inserted with a record once the user sends an email via MS Outlook. This process must be done automatically on the click of the 'SEND' button.

How can this be achieved?

Thanks.

You would have to write a VBA module to perform the actual insert, then create a rule to 'perform a specific action' on sent mail.

I have used asp.net to send email through my smtp server and then update the sql server. It is very easy job. YOu may want to explore that route.

The obvious answer is that you need to do some programming in whatever your company's "language of choice" is. However, another aspect of your question that is, perhaps, not so obvious is that you may have to create an Outlook plug-in to handle theproblem if the User is sending from Outlook.

On the other hand, you could take a slightly different approach by creating an application/module that allows the User to create the email outside of Outlook and then send the email. This would giveyou full control over the email creation and sending process and would allow you to programmatically add the entry in the Oracle table as needed.

You will insert the records, using ny programming languague. So use the try-catch. If the insert done succesfully, then call the method, which send the mail to the corresponding receiver, in MS.Net there are Mail class for tht purpose.
And any error will be raised while inserting data then error will be catch into the catch block and all the transaction will be rollback and your send mail method will be be called.
( you have to write the code for rollback using OracleTransaction class).
