How will the Cius do 720p video?

by snowranger . Updated 15 years, 12 months ago

The June 29 Cisco Cius press release states: “Cisco Cius offers HD video streaming and real-time video, multi-party conferencing” and further down “The Cisco Cius tablet features a front-mounted 720p HD camera which refreshes at up to 30 frames per second.”

Is the HD on the encode or decode? The display is “WSVGA capacitive touchscreen LCD with 1024 x 600-pixel effective resolution”, so this is not 1280 x 720. And the front-facing camera spec from the Cius data sheet is capable of “video capture is at 720 x 480 pixels at 30 fps”.

So I wonder if someone at Cisco made a mistake and did not realize that the 720 in 720p comes from the smaller number of standard 1280 x 720! Will someone from Cisco please clarify whether this is a mistake or do you have some technology to “enhance” the camera to deliver entry level HD (720p)?
