HP Colorado Drivers & Floppy Drive

By DerekR ·
I have an HP Colorado 20GB external tape drive that connects via the parallel port. After installation of the HP drivers the Floppy drive stops working in Windows NT 4.0. If you boot from a WIn95 boot disk the floppy works ok.

Here is what I havedone so far:

1. Removed the HP software, this allows access to the floppy drive but of course no backup.

2. Reinstalled the HP. No luck with the floppy.

3. Updated the drivers for the HP. No luck with the floppy.

4. Disabled the parallelport tape drive in the device control panel. No luck with the floppy.

The Event Viewer does not show any errors.

Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

Thanks
Derek

HP Colorado Drivers & Floppy Drive

Hmmmm!!! While I don't have an answer for you, this does sound *very* similar to a situation I have with my IBM Intellistation system - i.e., no floppy under NT 4, but fine if booted off a Win 95 floppy. Unfortunately I'm not trying to use a tape backup so I don't know which driver(s?) are "stomping" on the floppy - maybe the printer driver, since the parallel port seems to be affected by your own situation. What error do you get when you try to access the floppy?

I'll be curious to see if anyone has a solution.

HP Colorado Drivers & Floppy Drive

HP recommended the following fix for IBM ThinkPads (may also work on other IBM equipment).

Run Regedt32
Change the following setting:
Local_Machine
system
Controlset001
Services
epatapnt
Parameters
devices
modify the deviceparameter (set value to ) /share/de/db/dp/di/ni

This will fix the floppy drive problem when the colorado epat driver pack is installed.
