HP external cd writer problems

By william.carrier ·
My company just purchased a HP cd writer (external) 8000sereies. We connected it to a Compaq Deskpro pent 2 running windows 98. The cd writer works well, but we constantly recieved the blue screen of death when we shut down or sometimes when we switch between programs. This only happened after we installed the cd burner. We tried reinstalling the software etc. Any help wouls really be appreciated.

It seems that the installation might made some unwanted changes in the OS.
A few approaches in the order it should be pursuited:
- Look for updated drivers for thr CDRW at the mfr's site.
- Download and run a few times Regclean from Microsoft (free).
- Download the free 30 days trial (if you don't have it already) and run Norton System Works, and if you like it buy it. It's a great product particularly to find and replace problems in the system folders and registry.

Good luck there!
