    HP Invents

    Locked

    I am fixing a customers laptop and the laptop will not boot. It goes to the splash screen and then it presents “HP Invents”. Has anyone had this happen to them and if they have what did they do.

      That’s a new one on me, but have you booted into BIOS and looked in the Advanced Features to see if disabling that splash screen is an option?

      Yeah, I am wondering if that is the display that appears during POST, as seems to be the norm these days.

      If it is, is the HDD or other IDE device or indeed any device holding/hanging up the POST?

      Crack into BIOS and re-set to default and see if you can boot from a floppy or CD.

      If you mean a MS splash screen of some sort, then all of the above is irrelevant, and perhaps you should perform a “step by step” or logged boot to try and discover where where this is hanging up.

      Just worked on worse, got past the splash screen and started to load XP then stopped (even in safe mode) just black screen.

      Found it was either a trojan or worm, locked all but windows directory (logged in as admin had no access to 80% of the files). Booting with an AV and running it cleared up the problem.
