HP issues

By unhappyuser ·
We are having issues with trying to add HP LaserJets to our server and/or Win 2K PC's. They are currently on an older NT 4 server and we want to move them off. The HP 4100's add fine (using the HP Network Port) and print with no issues. The HP 4000's & 5SI's add fine but we can't print to them. Theay get a "status not available" message on any documents that are printed to them. This is happening on our Win 2K server, Win 2K PC's and also on a newer NT 4 server. We have just the tcp/ip and dlc protocols loaded on the computers.

Any thoughts?

I would recommed going to www.hp.com and write to tech support for any new drivers or issues they may have.

Simple first. Are the printers set to LPT 1 on the workstations that cannot connect. You can try capyuring the port and assigning it to LPT 2, 3, etc. Is the path listed for the printers correct.
Something like "server/hp4000".

Do the printers appear in network n-hood at all? If not then something isn't set up correctly. Have you set sharing and permissions. The easy way is to give all users or groups printing rights.

If you can see the printrs on the network have you tried right clicking on the printer icon and installng from there.

Does the printer IP settings match with what is already there. IP range, subnet mask, gateway etc.

A problem I've ran into a couple of times was getting shared printers through the firewall.

It's a known issue that HP is trying to not admit to.
