HP Jornada 540 syncing problems

My CEO has an HP Jornada 540 Windows CE device which currently is causing me major difficulties.

The device has been working fine until recently, however, the device through Auto Synchronisation (ie syncing once Outlook information is chaged) is now staying up to date with the PC to which it is attached.

If we add tasks to his task list in Outlook, this should automatically update on the PDA, as with Inbox, Calender, Contacts. This is not happening, and if we remove the device from its cradle and reseat, then it will sync. This is OK as a temporary measure, but will not suffice in the long term.

Have re-installed Activesync 3.1, have soft rebooted the PDA – have not tried completely wiping the PDA yet (last resort). Have checked Activesync settings – all seems OK.

Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. These devices do my head in – not enough control over how they work so when they fail – there isn’t a lot support techies can do.
