HP Laptop Power on Password

Hp Pavilion N 5150 on boot asks for Power on Password. How do I override or bypass?

You don't!

Historically, laptops used to behave in much the same way as desktop computers - you could disconnect the battery power from the CMOS chip to 'override' the password.

However, nowadays, with laptop theft running as one of the highest computer crimes, the password is stored in either a Flash RAM or an EEPROM - either way these chips are solid state - denial of current from the CMOS battery doesn't affect them!

Consequently the only effective way to override / bypass a 'boot password' is to contact your local HP technician. Oh, and you'll need a Sales Receipt to prove legal ownership of the laptop.
