HP Laserjet 5 config problem in 95

by ngunity . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

Hello,
I have a HP LaserJet 5 setup off a Jetdirect print server using TCP/IP printing off my NT Server.
Whenever I setup the printer on my NT server it defaults the printers paper settings to ‘letter’ instead of ‘A4’ which is annoying but changeable.

However when I setup the printer on a Windows 95 machine, sharing off the server, it defaults the selection to ‘letter’ paper again and won’t allow me any configuration options under the printer properties, e.g. ‘paper’.
This means when I try and print from my windows 95 clients the printer halts and displays ‘Insert letter in tray 2’ on the screen.

I have tried a number of different drivers, by the way, and postscript drivers (which I don’t think are the best for the HP Laserjet 5) did allow me to configure paper type and other settings, but then displayed ‘Printer does not support this langauge’ on the printer and wouldn’t print jobs.

Could anyone tell me how to solve this problem either with:
– a proven driver for the ‘HP Laserjet 5’ under Windows 95
– a way to change the printers output settings under Windows 95

Or is there another explanation for the problem?
Is ‘letter’ the same as ‘A4’ output anyway and if so why doesn’t he printer accept this?

thanks
