    HP Laserjet III Series Connectivity

    Locked

    by redshift ·

A customer brought me an HP Laserjet III, Laserjet IIId, and a laserjet IIIsi (he had bought them all at an auction)for cleaning, evaluation, and minor repair if necessary.

All three have Jetdirect cards installed, in addition to the serial and parallel ports, and will print beautiful self-test pages.

I need to make these work off of parallel, but for some reason they won’t respond. I tried removing the jetdirect port and testing to no avail. I don’t want to use the jetdirect (which is for Novell) or the serial. Any ideas?

I dont know if its goin to help but you never know.
try using USB instead of parallel you can get an adapter that converts the parallel port to a USB port

The parallel port on my test PC is in excellent working condition, I can make an HP Laserjet 4 work just fine.

Also, the test app that I’m using is Troubleshooter 6.1, so the OS is not an issue.

The LaserJet 4 was the first HP product to come out with “hot ports” where the printer would accept output from any port. The LaserJet 3 must be configured for the specific port it is to receive data from, and can accept data only from one port without changing. If memory serves, you hold down the config button for 10 seconds until the words “DEVICE CONFIG” appear, then click through the menus to select the input port.
