HP Notebook audio problems

By MLSesp ·
My hp notebook audio has stopped working. I tried to download a new driver for it but it didn't workand when I tried to downloadit again the driver wouldn't download at all. I tried a system repair and putting the notebook back to factory settings to fix the proble and that didn't work either. Everytime I try to do something on the notebook it lets out a loud beep. It's because of that, I don't know if it s a hardwear problem or a program problem. If anyone has a solution to this problem please send me a message back. thank you.

Couple of thoughts....

download and burn a CD like Ubuntu live. Boot it from the CD and try to make some sounds. If silent, then your hardware has failed, if it makes sound then it's a Windows problem.

Is this Windows XP or Vista?

In Windows control panel >system > hardware list, do you see the sound hardware listed? Does it have a yellow ? or a red X next to it?

The loud beep is the 'PC Speaker' volume setting....can you see the volume control applet on your system tray?

Another thing to try which may be helpful

Is to open the Control Panel and then the Sound and Devices when that Window Opens left click on the Audio Tab and make sure that your Sound Device is listed there. If it isn't click on the Drop Down Arrow tot he right and select your Audio Device. With Windows sometimes installing either some games or other hardware can change this setting and this alters the Default Audio Device to something not fitted tot he computer.
