HP Notebook recovery with failed LCD monitor

by ajkamath . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

I have a HP pavilion ZE5170 that got damaged in an auto accident. For a short time immediately after the accident, part of the LCD sreen was functional, allowing me to connect the unit to a monitor to check the condition of the system, although the LCD was degrading quickly as I worked. The only other apparent damage was to the floppy drive, which was destroyed, so I recently removed it from the unit, but the LCD screen is now totally dead, so I have no way of accessing the system, although I have transfered all of my data using a disk caddy. I’d like to use the beast as a small desktop equivalent by hooking it up to a monitor – a SAMSUNG SyncMaster 213T. However, the computer does not bring up the monitor automatically when it is turned on. Can anyone tell me how to bring up the external monitor upon startup? I am running Windows XP Pro w/SP2.
