HP OmniBook 5700CT HDD

By Huntsman.ks ·
The 2Gig 2.5" Toshiba HDD used by HP in this LapTop has suffered a head crash. Is it unique in some way?
I have tried to replace it with an IBM 10Gig HDD but the BIOS refuses to recognise it correctly in the main SCU window, even tho it Auto detects it correctly.
When trying to Fdisk it, Fdisk says there is no HDD installed. I'm stumped.

HP want the earth for any advice or assistance & even more (A$700) for a replacement 2gig drive.

Go to www.pricewatch.com Under For Notebooks/Notebook Drives you'll see a couple of listings for Toshiba. Maybe one of the vendors you find can help you out for a lot less money than Toshiba.

Try to see if there is a update for the BIOS and flash the BIOS. Go to HP's website to if there is an update.

Likely your BIOS won't recognize a disk over 2.1 GB. If you want to use the IBM disk, put it into another laptop and create a 2 GB partition. Then put it into the HP and see if you can access it.
Or look here:

for the latest BIOS update.

The URL to HP doesn't provide the driver anymore. Tried HDD's from 1.5 gig to 10 gig. All failed to install.

I agree with answer three that it may be a BIOS limitation for the size drive. You should be able to use the software that came with the drive to work around that.

All attempts failed. Suspect the HDD Controller, but couldn't prove it without another M/B.
