HP Pavilion

By tashinga ·
Every time I run a program that is memory intensive on my hp pavilion like writing a cd, my PC just switches off. What could be the cause and possibly the remedy?

What is your model number

Processor number and memory. What version of windows are you running. There could be a possibe short in the connections or motherboard.

Where do I get the processor number? All I know is it's P4 1.7GHz. It has 512MB RAM.

PC Shuts down using CD

by garyhamrick In reply to Not sure

Had the same problem. Caused by heat buildup during writing CD which is cpu intensive. Solution is to remove heat sink and clean dust accumulation off the fins and cpu. I did that and mine works just fine now. Clean fan also. Too much CPU heat is generated during the CD burning process.
