Hp Pavilion problem with Linksys Hub

By fred78 ·
I am trying to connect an HP Pavilion 9680C OEM for home use to a Linksys Hub to the internet. I am using a Kingston KNE110TX NIC in the Pavilion machine. My cables have been tested with a cabletester and are good. The Linksys hub has a similiar HP Pavilion already connected and accessing the internet thru IE5 and AOL thru the desktop icon. The NIC's lights are al lit (10/100), the hub lites for the port of Pavilion in question are all lit upon turning on the machine, and I can ping the loopback adapter(127.0.0.1). The wild card here is the Pavilion came with a Lucent Wildwird DSL Modem NIC that doesn't seem to be there by visual inspection and when deleted the HP reinstalls upon reboot. Anyone run into similiar problems with HP Pavilion OEM 9680C with Lucent Wildwire DSL Modems installed? Is it as simple as popping out all modem cards and having Kingston by self? Some feedback about Pavilion problems would be appreciated. Thank you.

My assumption is that the DSL Modem is an onboard modem, so you can do one of two things to get rid of it. Go into the BIOS and disable it, or in the device manager under hte properties for the DSL Modem, check off "disable in this hardware profile." This may get rid of your problem as the computer may be trying to go out to the internet through the DSL Modem and not thing NIC.

If it doesn't fix your problem, see if you can ping the other computer on the network (run winipcfg on the other computer to get it's IP addres). make sure both of your computers are under the same subnet or else they wont be able to ping each other.

reply with some more detailed info if this doesn't help.

Seems like it isn't assigning the port address properly, if your Modem is operating properly when a call is made on it from the system , then I would simply tell the system to remove the Hub and let it reinstall, and be detected , and try the native drivers Win has assigned , or if it asks for the Hub install disk , let it do the assigning in the order it chooses, likely it will resolve it , otherwise contact the manufacturer WebSite and see if there is a fix , or contact one of their technicians if not.
