HP Pavillion 9600 - Does not Power up

By onbliss ·
I have a HP Pavillion 9600 (bought 8-years ago), I don't use this much often. Recently I had just powered it and logged on. Then suddenly it went out - just like that.

Now, it does not power up.

I am not a hardware guy, but I opened up to see if anything had got burned up inside (at least the areas that I could see). Nothing struck me to be odd inside. The fan does not get the power.

Any guesses on what could possibly wrong? Would each system have some kind of circuit breaker inside?

Is it safe to take it to Best Buy (that is where I bought it) to get it repaired?

thanks in advance.

I would get another power supply.....

Test another power supply with similar wattage. This will be your cheapest option. Make sure you get the right power connectors since this computer is 8 years old.
This one should/could be similar to the one you have abit more powerful maybe:

Hope all goes well.

You can change it yourself... but.....

Before you do, get some sticky labels and label the cables as and when you pull then off the motherboard so when you get the new power supply you can see which cable goes where.
Example would be:
1: motherboard power cable (the thick one that plugs into the motherboard, you might have another power cable for the board of which you will see as and when you take them off).
2: Harddrive power cable.
3: Data cable that is the flat type if IDE or if SATA these would be the thin type cables.
4: Floppy disk power cable.
Hope all goes well.
